Shiny New Computer Lab for Creative Teens

The MARZ Project, the Ink People’s free after school digital art studio, received a much needed gift from the generous people at Computer Labs for Kids. Students working on music, videos or digital graphics can now sit down at one of eight brand new Dell laptops running Windows 8 Professional.

Since January of 2009, Computer Labs for Kids, has donated computers to children in far away places like Agra, India, Ashkalon, Israel, and Dallas, Texas. Shira Sandford, a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and independent consultant, is the founder. “While working to set up computer labs for an after-school program in Chicago, I became aware of the vast percentage of children who don’t have the access to computers that they need. This charity was formed to help bridge that gap.” www.computerlabs4kids.org

The MARZ Project will be planning a series of workshops with their new tools, including a traveling digital art lab at the Jefferson Community Center this spring. Go to inkpeople.org, or find the MARZ Project on Facebook for a schedule of free classes.

Creative people between the ages of 13 and 22 can drop in to the MARZ Project and check out their new tech, Tuesdays through Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Carson Block Building, 517 3rd Street, Suite #39.
